Accident Claim Five Lives In Ondo

Five persons were killed while several others sustained injuries Friday evening in a fatal auto-crash in Ondo state.

The accident was said to have occurred at Agbabu Junction along Ore-Okitipupa Road in the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Ore General Hospital while the injured passengers were still receiving treatment.

Femi Joseph, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said the accident occurred at about 6.30pm.

Joseph said the crash involved a Toyota Privia bus with registration number Lagos MT 138KJA and a Toyota Avensis car with registration number Ondo BDR 599 AAA.

The Police Spokesperson, who said it was a case of head-on collision, added that the two vehicles were going on the opposite direction.

“Five people died in the accident, three females and two males. From the information we got from one of the survivors, it was the driver of the Privia Bus, known as Daniel, who caused the accident as he left his lane to collide with the other vehicle coming from the Okitipupa axis.

“We were told that the driver was drinking alcohol while he was driving. So, he mistakenly swerved to the other lane to collide with the car.

“And immediately the accident occurred, he ran away. We are still looking for him,” Joseph said.

The office of the sector command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), however, claimed that only three persons lost their lives in the accident.

Ogungbemile Olusegun, Head of Operations of the sector command of Federal Road Safely Corps (FRSC), also confirmed the accident, claiming, however, that only three persons lost their lives in the crash.
