The ruling All Progressives Congress has constituted its presidential primary election committee ahead of the 2027 general elections, appointing former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim as chairman of the panel.
According to a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, prominent party chieftain Sanusi Musa will serve as secretary of the committee, while former Senate President Ken Nnamani and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives were also named as members.
The party further announced that APC governors would coordinate presidential primary activities in their respective states. Among those appointed are Hope Uzodimma and suspended Rivers political figure Siminalayi Fubara, whose inclusion has generated widespread reactions within political circles.
Fubara’s appointment comes few days after he has announced that he has stepped down from the 2027 governorship race in Rivers State following an alleged lack of political backing from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and key stakeholders within the APC. Political observers say the latest development may signal attempts by the ruling party to reconcile internal divisions and retain influential figures ahead of the next election cycle.
The announcement has since triggered mixed reactions online, with supporters describing the committee as a strategic move to strengthen party unity, while critics questioned the choice of some members amid lingering political tensions in Rivers State and other parts of the country.
