
Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, declaring the once powerful opposition party has been reduced to a “carcass” hijacked by anti-democratic forces.
In a resignation letter addressed to his Ward leadership, Momodu said, the PDP had collapsed internally and could no longer represent the values he once believed in.
“My reason is simple and straight forward”, he wrote, “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad day light”
Momodu described his decision to leave as an honorable exist, stating it was time to “abandon the carcass of the party” and align with a new political. direction”. He announced his support for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, which he said many disillusioned members are now joining.
His departure reflects ongoing turmoil within the PDP, which has recently faced infighting, defection, and leadership crisis that have weakened its influence as Nigeria’s opposition party.
Momodu closed his letter with appreciation to his local party leaders: “I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times”.
