FCT Police Intercept 488 Rounds of AK-47 Ammunition Hidden in Palm Oil

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted 488 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition hidden in jerrycans filled with palm oil in a major arms smuggling bust.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Nyanya Division Police operatives and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), led to the arrest of 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State at the Nyanya bus terminal.

FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrest, revealing that the suspect was found with two 25-litre jerrycans disguised as containing only palm oil but filled with illicit ammunition.

“Acting on intelligence, our officers, in partnership with NURTW, tracked and apprehended the suspect on March 24, 2025. Upon interrogation, he confessed to being recruited by Yakubu Kachalla, a resident of Funtua, Katsina State, who allegedly paid him ₦100,000 to transport the illegal cargo from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State to Katsina,” Adeh stated.

She reiterated the FCT Police Command’s commitment to dismantling arms smuggling networks and enhancing security in the capital.

Investigations are ongoing to track down Aminu’s accomplices and unravel the full extent of the smuggling operation.
