President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday sought the approval of the Senate to sack the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission for Abia, Adamawa, and Sokoto.
The REC’s suspended, who Tinubu is seeking to sack, are, Professor Ikemefuna Chijioke Uzochukwu (Abia), Barrister Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Dr. Nura Ali (Sokoto).
They were accused of misconduct during 2023 general election.
Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on the flow of the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday.
The President said the REC’s were suspended by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) before he assumed office more than one year ago.
“The Senate is invited to note that the three resident electoral commissioners have been suspended for misconduct since March 2022 before the advent of the current administration”, Tinubu letter read in part.
“While I trust that the Senate will consider this request expeditiously, please distinguished Senators and distinguished Senate President, the assurances of highest consideration”.
The President is expected to ask the red chambers to confirm nominees to fill the vacancy offices in the coming days.
