Students of the University of Ibadan, UI, have commended the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, for his intervention in addressing the prolonged blackout on campus.
The intervention led to the restoration of electricity supply in the university’s College Hospital, UCH, as the students commended the minister’s prompt response to the electricity challenge.
Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, Bolaji Tunji, made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
9News Nigeria reports that some of his words were; “The amiable power minister has demonstrated his commitment to keeping his word. “All students of the university expressed their sincere appreciation for your swift intervention.
“Electricity has been restored to UCH and reinstated to the Halls of Residence: Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Hall.“Your prompt response demonstrates your value for Nigerian students.”
In addition, the students requested further assistance from the minister in lighting some parts of the campus.
“They humbly asked for the donation of 150 solar-powered streetlights to illuminate Barth Road (the longest road on campus), Tech Road, and other frequently travelled pathways used by students for classes and night reading.
“This initiative will significantly enhance security and ensure a safer environment for all.”
Tunji also mentioned that the students further sought the minister’s support in procuring a 10 Kilo Volt Ampere, KVA, solar system for the Students’ Union building.
He explained that the solar system would reduce dependence on the national power supply and mitigate the effects of erratic electricity.
