The Jigawa State House of Assembly has revoked the Hisbah Advisory Committee Law of 2004 to pave way for the establishment of Jigawa State Hisbah Board.
This followed the presentation and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Religious Affairs, during plenary on Tuesday, in Dutse.
The chairman of the committee, Abdu Ila-Muku, who presented the report emphasised that the committee had met with stakeholders and collected necessary data, explaining that the law aimed to provide reforms that would strengthen the activities of Hisbah Guards through legal backing.
Ila-Muku expressed that a robust Hisbah board will assist neighbourhood surveillance, crime detection and prevention.
He said;” It will restore moral values and ensure peaceful coexistence and religion tolerance.” he said.
The Clerk of House, Barrister Musa Abubakar, haven conducted third reading of the bill, the Speaker, Haruna Aliyu, passed the bill into law, as he prayed that the law will increase the moral values of people in the state.
