Nineteen persons, mostly women and children, have been confirmed dead in a ghastly auto-crash in Yobe State.
The accident occurred some 50 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital, around Fune in the Fune Local Government Area.

Spokesperson for the police in Yobe, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident to Newsmen, saying “the accident happened in Damagun in the Fune Local Government Area.”
He further said, “It was a head-on collision involving two commercial vehicles of Volkswagen gulf products, both conveying commuters.
“One of the cars was heading for Kano from Maiduguri while the other took off from Damagun to Damaturu. The collision happened when the Damaturu bound driver veered off into the lane of the vehicle from opposite direction.
“All occupants of the two vehicles, comprising more of women and children died in the accident on the spot.
“Their remains have been deposited at the Damagun General Hospital for the families of the deceased to retrieve for burial,” he said.
